MELISSA AUF DER MAUR Collaborating With BILLY CORGAN

November 4, 2005

Launch Radio Networks reports: Former HOLE and SMASHING PUMPKINS bassist Melissa Auf der Maur has enlisted her former boss in the PUMPKINS, singer and guitarist Billy Corgan, to help write songs for her second solo album. Auf der Maur told RollingStone.com, "It's really symbolic for me to have this opportunity with Billy, who is one of my main musical mentors...But in all of this time, I've never actually written a song with him. I've written half the album on my own — but I'm looking to really be kicked in the ass and whipped into a much better songwriter."

Corgan recommended Auf der Maur to Courtney Love for the bass player position in HOLE over 10 years ago, before eventually hiring her for the final lineup of the SMASHING PUMPKINS.

Auf der Maur said that the PUMPKINS' 1991 album, "Gish", inspired her to play rock music.

Auf der Maur released her debut solo album, under her own name, in 2004.
She said she hopes to complete her new album by the end of the year and begin touring next spring. She added that she would also be available for a SMASHING PUMPKINS reunion, which Corgan recently expressed interest in.
